Seriously, I was appalled.
Not by what the guys were doing, but what the other by-standers were doing. These kind of things are very common in such events. Crowded place, alcohol, everyone getting high…
This is one main reason I hate going out for celebrations to these crowded areas during such events. Sentosa, Orchard, Vivo, etc… You’ll never know what will happen. And every year, there will be new reports about girls getting molested. Usually those that I have heard would be something like “girl got foam sprayed in her face, guys molested her.” This would be understandable if no one went up to help because everything happened so quickly that even the girl would be stunned and don’t know how to react. Plus, she may not even be spotted because of the crowd.
But this is seriously disgusting. She was up on a stage (which makes me wonder why in the first place). Everyone could see what was happening, or at least those that were there… There are most probably more than 100 people watching that scene (based on the video) though there are much more people there but looking at that direction. Then again, why are they just standing there, taking pictures and videos!!!
ANS: TYPICAL SINGAPOREANS
Honestly, I have nothing against typical Singaporeans. Afterall, I can be one at times too. But I think we should change this kind of attitude of being KIASI, and KIASU.
To some matters, it would be difficult for us not to be KIASI or KIASU. However, this is NOT such a case that we show of our typical Singaporean spirit. Oh, did I mention? KAYPOH!!!
Seriously man, if you don’t want to help, then don’t look, don’t even take pictures or videos. It’s just plain disgusting.
Well, if you ask me what would I have done if I was there, my train of thoughts would be something like….
1. OMG. What is happening?
2. *rolls eyes* wth..trying to attract attention…
3. Walk away
But, if the girl was screaming for help (which I don’t think she was in the video)
4. SHIT! IDIOTS!
5. Look for some person-in-charge and tell them what is going on (I’m sure that there will be some staff there)
6. If they are not helping or I cannot find anyone, I’ll get my friends to go up to help (if I’m with guys)
7. If I’m with girls, scream at the 4 idiots….and run away.
Some reactions from the typical Singaporeans would be:
“Oh, this is interesting. Let’s take a video and post it up on youtube/facebook”
“This is going to be on the headlines! And I’m here watching it LIVE”
“Should I go up to help? Nah, don’t cause unnecessary trouble”
“Should I help? Nah, later the bangalahs come and hoot me”
“Whatever~, they are just trying to attract attention…”
The last 3 is understandable because you have to think of your own safety first. Afterall, you really won’t know what they may do to you. So the best thing to do, is to shout at them and run away. Or just walk away in the first place without caring because you won’t know if they are doing it on purpose. If they are, it would have been really embarrassing for you.
If you are petite like me, it would be easy to get lost in the crowd so just run into the crowd (after shouting at the idiots) and disappear. If you are tall, too bad. I don’t know how you are going to escape. But, if you are tall (and big sized), it would not be a problem for you to scare the guys off. If you are tall, but not big sized, just run away… it would be impossible for them to catch you.
I wondered how she got out of that situation … … and where are her friends?
Lesson Learnt (gosh, so PW-ish):
DO NOT GO TO NEW YEAR PARTIES.
But if you really want to go, go with a big group of people and stick with them always. Please also have a mixture of guys and girls. Having guys around to protect the girls is always a good thing. Unless that guy is a girly guy…
Just hope that the next generation of Singaporeans would not have such attitude (although its very difficult to say so).
